Hi students,

My name is Jacob Jung (my last name is pronounced "Young," it's a German
name). Please call me by my nickname, Jake (ジェーク). I'm a 22 year-old
4th year student studying abroad at the Kyoto Consortium for Japanese
Studies (京都アメリカ大学コンソーシアム). I was born in Michigan, USA
and my university back in America is the University of Michigan where I
major in philosophy and Japanese Studies. I'll give a longer
self-introduction of the first day of class.

The first meeting with consist of self-introductions and discussing how
the meetings should be run and if anyone has anything specific they'd
like to do or goals they'd like to achieve. Unless anyone has any other
suggestions, the main format of the meetings will consist of choosing a
topic for each week ahead of time (e.g. food, movies, sports, etc) and
then discuss that subject during the meeting. This should make it easier
to talk for the whole hour and a half. If anyone has any good ideas for
topics, please let me know during the first meeting.

Hi everyone,
My name is Gerry Shih, and I'll be teaching this class on Wednesdays. I'm currently a student at the Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies here at Kyoto University. Originally from Illinois, I'm now a junior at Stanford University in California majoring in economics and minoring in Japanese. Please feel free to talk to me in either language, in and outside of class. I'm very excited about getting to know everyone here, in and outside of class. After all, I'm a student like everyone else.

Based on my own experience, I know that language classes at the university level are heavily focused on detailed grammar points and memorizing some vocabularly. This is important and helps with reading and writing, but actually speaking, interacting, and living in that language is a completely different matter. I never got enough actual conversation practice in class, so while I could read and write, I couldn't actually converse at all.

In this class, I'm going to give everyone as much time as I can to practice conversing in NATURAL, SPOKEN American English. When you speak English, you want to sound like a real person, not a book, right?? We'll openly discuss different subjects depending on everyone's English level, and try to simulate real conversations and situations. We'll do anything else you guys are interested in.

I'll see you in class!

少しでも興味のある方、留学生でも日本人でも大歓迎です。

もちろん、私たちや他の学生と楽しくおしゃべりをするだけでも構いませんよ。

歓迎会に参加してくれた皆さん、ありがとうございました。

皆さんにお会いできて、本当によかったと思っています。

去年200人以上もの学生が参加してくれました。

皆さんは、11月祭前夜祭に来てくれたでしょうか？

去年の11月祭前夜祭では、私達は「美味飯店」という中華料理店を出店しました。

餃子、水餃子、肉まん、坦坦麺、茶卵を、京都大学に在籍する中国人留学生が、正真正銘の本場の味を再現しました。

12月上旬　工場見学(予定)

日本の企業はどんな様子ですか？日本人はどうのように働いていますか？こんな問題を解くためには、私たちと一緒に工場見学に行ってみましょう！

12月下旬　スポーツ大会(他大学の留学生団体と共催)

留学生と日本人の国際交流を深めることを目的にして

We served dumplings, steamed dumplings, pork buns, and Sichuan pungent noodle of authentic Chinese taste by Chinese students in Kyoto University

理念

It is foreign students that quite well know what most troubles them and what they need.

A foreign student alone is really weak. However if many foreign students work together, they will be able to overcome any difficulties.

Based on the idea above, we have determined that our fundamental ethos is

* to work together and help each other

under the guidance of the Co-op.

留学生が何で困っているか、何を欲しいかを最も分かっているのは留学生自身だと思います。留学生各個人の力は弱いけれども、皆の力を合わせたら、どんな困難でも乗り越えられるでしょう。この考えに基づいて私たち留学生委員会は生協の指導の下で、

* 自分たちの力を合わせ、互いに助け合うこと

を、基本的な理念とします。

OBJECTIVE

目的

Our objectives are that through our activities many foreign students

* help one another in terms of lives and money.

* promote communications among foreign students and Japanese students.

* understand Japanese cultures while impressing their own cultures on Japanese; namely promote cultural communications.

この委員会を通じて、多くの留学生が

* 生活の面で、経済的な面で助け合うこと、

* 留学生の間での交流、留学生と日本人の交流を深めること、

* 日本文化を理解することと同時に、自国の文化を日本人に理解してもらうこと、つまり文化の交流を深めること

が私たちの目的だと考えます。
